Little Mead Primary Academy

Funding Reports

General Funding

Little Mead Primary Academy is funded by the Department for Education through a Multi Academy Trust (Trust in Learning Academies). The Trust and our local governing body are responsible for ensuring we meet our statutory requirements and provide a high quality service as a school. Annual accounts are available on the Trust in Learning Academies website.

Part of the governors’ role is to ensure that we make best use of the annual budget, they spend time with us, know us well and are able to offer a wide range of knowledge and expertise to meet our needs.

Pupil Premium

In 2011 the government introduced some funding for schools called Pupil Premium in order to support the progress of vulnerable groups.  The funding is paid directly to schools and the amount received is based on the number of pupils who receive free school meals, children in care and children of parents in the armed forces.

Schools are free to spend this funding as we see fit. The Head Teacher can spend this money in a variety of ways to ensure the very best pupil outcomes although Ofsted recommend successful approaches that may include:

  • well-targeted support to improve attendance, behaviour or links with families where these are barriers to a pupil’s learning
  • ensuring support staff (particularly Learning Support Assistants) are highly trained and understand their role in helping pupils to achieve
  • allocating the best teachers to teach intervention groups to improve mathematics and English
  • involving governors in the decision making and evaluation process.

Further information regarding pupil premium eligibilty can be found here. Please contact the school office if you think your child may be entitled to Pupil Premium Funding.

PE & Sports Premium Funding

In April 2013 the Government announced new funding of £150 million for Physical Education (PE) and sport in schools. This funding should be used to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision. Schools are free to determine how best to use this funding to improve the quality and breadth of PE and Sport provision, including increasing participation in PE and Sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.

At Little Mead Primary Academy we recognise the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our students. We believe that an innovative, varied PE curriculum and extra-curricular opportunities have a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement all our students.

School Led Tutoring Plan

The School-Led Tutoring Grant is one of the three National Tutoring Programmes announced by the Government and made available to all academies and state-funded schools in England. The grant is designed to help close the education gap between disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils and their peers. Schools are expected to prioritise these pupils however, schools have the flexibility to decide which pupils need the most support to help them catch-up on missed education.

This is a subsidised tutoring programme where the government pays 75% of the costs to designated providers and schools are required to pay the other 25% out of their catch up premium funding.

Schools can choose between using internal teaching staff, sourcing local tutors or giving students access to online tutoring. At Little Mead Primary Academy we chose to use this funding to deliver evidence based intervention programmes delivered by existing, highly skilled teaching staff.
